Moving miles away wasn't something I knew would be possible, but only a dream. Moving miles away happened and a dream turned into a reality. A reality that consisted of reconnecting with my roots, my cultures, enriching my tongue and expanding my understanding with the connections and energy that surrounds all of us, including the connections made with the food we consume.

For the past year, I've been reconnecting with the things I've devoured and previously never gave time to contemplate and thank.

This series consists of moments I made sure to have with what's "between finger and thumb"*, before consumption, before they become part of me. As it is an ongoing series I am committed to always take the time to connect, understand and thank the substances I allow to fill me.

*The poem "Chocolate" by Rita Dove comes to mind.
