In the summer of 2009 I left for the United Arab Emirates after being approved by my college’s institutional review board to conduct ethnographic interviews for my senior capstone project. Each day of my 6 week stay was incredible. I was able to emerge myself in a culture and community that was not my own. The familiarity of the cultures and fluency in two of the languages I was surrounded by helped me understand a lot but what I enjoyed the most was photographing everything that was around me.

These are just a few of the many that were taken. The ability to walk to multiple destinations was something I greatly enjoyed as well.

Capturing during each step while witnessing many others walking long distances.

Been a while since graduating and the research papers, recordings and transcriptions are in a box somewhere.

The only things I keep returning to view are the photographs. The photographs that encompass so much memories and stories.
